Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 pound ground turkey, chicken, or beef
  • 1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Black pepper, to taste

For the Sauce

  • 1/4 cup avocado or sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup tamari or soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped ginger
  • Chili flakes, to taste
  • 1-2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

Vegetables

  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets (about a cup and a half of florets)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, tamari or soy sauce, fresh grated ginger, chopped green onions, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Form the Meatballs: Shape the mixture into small, bite-sized meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and set them aside on a plate.
  3. Cook the Meatballs: Heat half of the avocado or sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meatballs are browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Sauté Broccoli and Aromatics: In the same skillet, add the remaining oil, then add the chopped garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until they are crisp-tender.
  5. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, tamari or soy sauce, and honey until the cornstarch is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  6. Combine Meatballs and Sauce: Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the broccoli and stir to combine. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add Meatballs Back: Return the cooked meatballs to the skillet and gently toss to coat them well in the sticky honey garlic sauce. Cook for another 2 minutes to warm the meatballs through and allow flavors to meld.
  8. Finish and Serve: Sprinkle chili flakes and toasted sesame seeds over the dish for some heat and crunch. Serve immediately, enjoying the sticky, flavorful meatballs with the tender broccoli.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey, chicken, or beef depending on your preference.
  • Use tamari for a gluten-free option; soy sauce contains gluten unless specified gluten-free.
  • Adjust the amount of chili flakes to control the heat level of the dish.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, add an extra half teaspoon of cornstarch dissolved in a little water.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
