Vegan Individual Apple Crisp is a warm, cozy, and perfectly portioned dessert featuring sweet-tart Granny Smith apples baked under a lightly spiced, crumbly oat topping made from flour and vegan butter or oil. This plant-based dessert is naturally comforting and easy to prepare, perfect for single servings or any season.

Ingredients

1 medium Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and diced

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 tablespoon dark brown sugar

Tiny pinch of salt

2 teaspoons water

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon cornstarch

2 tablespoons neutral oil or vegan butter

3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons rolled oats

1½ tablespoons dark brown sugar

⅛ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Tiny pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a small ramekin or oven-safe dish.
  2. In a small bowl, combine diced apple, granulated sugar, dark brown sugar, salt, water, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Toss to coat the apples evenly and place them in the prepared dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix flour, oats, dark brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in oil or vegan butter until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple filling.
  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  6. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm on its own or with vegan ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

Add a handful of chopped nuts, such as pecans or walnuts, to the topping for extra crunch.

Mix in dried cranberries or raisins with the apple filling.

Use other firm-tart apples like Honeycrisp or Braeburn for a slightly different flavor.

Sprinkle a dash of nutmeg or ginger into the filling for extra warmth.

Serve with vegan vanilla ice cream or coconut whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
