This Heirloom Italian Burrata Caprese Salad elevates the classic Caprese with creamy burrata, sweet heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, and a drizzle of balsamic reduction. Finished with a touch of luxurious truffle salt, this salad is a sophisticated dish perfect for any special occasion. Simple yet indulgent, it’s an ideal side dish or appetizer to impress your guests with its vibrant flavors.
For the Salad:
4 heirloom tomatoes
1 ball burrata cheese (or buffalo mozzarella)
¼ cup basil leaves (or more, if preferred)
1 teaspoon sea salt flakes
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon truffle salt
Prepare the balsamic reduction: In a small saucepan, pour the balsamic vinegar and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Allow it to reduce by half, which should take about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Prepare the tomatoes: Slice the heirloom tomatoes into thick rounds or wedges, depending on your preference. Arrange them on a large serving plate or platter.
Add the cheese: Tear the burrata into pieces and scatter it over the tomatoes. If using buffalo mozzarella, slice it into thick rounds and arrange it alongside the tomatoes.
Season the salad: Scatter the basil leaves over the tomatoes and cheese. Sprinkle with sea salt flakes and black pepper to taste.
Drizzle with olive oil: Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the salad, making sure each ingredient is lightly coated.
Add the finishing touches: Once the balsamic reduction has cooled, drizzle it over the salad to enhance the flavor. Finish with a sprinkle of truffle salt for a luxurious touch.
Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy the creamy, savory, and fresh flavors of this elevated Caprese salad.
For added sweetness, you can include thinly sliced strawberries or peaches in place of some tomatoes.
If burrata isn’t available, buffalo mozzarella is a great alternative.
The truffle salt adds a gourmet touch, but it can be substituted with regular sea salt if necessary.
This salad is best served immediately for the freshest flavors.
