Ground Beef Philly Skillet is a quick and hearty one-pan meal inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak. Featuring sautéed mushrooms, peppers, onions, and tender ground beef topped with melted cheese, this dish delivers all the savory flavors of the original with less fuss, perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

12 oz white mushrooms, sliced or chopped (340g)

1 tsp salt, divided

¼ tsp pepper

1 bell pepper, thinly sliced or diced (200g)

½ large white or yellow onion, diced (200g)

1 lb extra lean ground beef (96/4) (448g)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (15g)

2 frozen garlic cubes or minced garlic cloves

1 cup provolone, sharp white cheddar, or mozzarella cheese, grated (82g)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion with half the salt (½ tsp) until tender and mushrooms release juices, about 5-7 minutes.

  • Push vegetables aside; add ground beef to empty side. Season with remaining salt and pepper. Cook, breaking up beef, until browned and cooked through, 6-8 minutes.

  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and garlic, mix well, cook 1-2 minutes more.

  • Sprinkle cheese evenly over skillet mixture. Reduce heat to low, cover skillet, and melt cheese for 3-5 minutes until bubbly.

  • Serve hot directly from the skillet.

Notes

Substitute cheeses like Monterey Jack, Gouda, or pepper jack for variation.

Add jalapeños, extra mushrooms, or spinach for more flavor and nutrition.

Serve over cauliflower rice for a low-carb option or on hoagie rolls for sandwiches.

Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 3 days; reheat gently.
