Ingredients

For the Bread Dough:

2 large eggs

1 cup lukewarm water

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon garlic powder

2 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast

3 ¼ cups bread flour

For the Garlic Herb Butter:

4 tablespoons butter, melted

1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon each dried parsley, basil, and oregano (to total one tablespoon) or a similar mix

Instructions

  • dissolve, and add yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  • Mix the Dough: Whisk eggs, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture and stir. Gradually add bread flour until dough forms.

  • Knead the Dough: Knead dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic, adding flour as needed. Alternatively, use a stand mixer for 5-7 minutes.

  • Let the Dough Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, until doubled in size.

  • Prepare Garlic Butter: Melt butter and stir in garlic powder, salt, parsley, basil, and oregano. Set aside.

  • Shape the Knots: Punch down the dough, divide into 12 portions. Roll into 6-8 inch ropes and tie into knots, tucking ends under.

  • Second Rise: Place knots on a greased baking sheet, cover with a cloth, and let rise for 20-30 minutes.

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Bake the Knots: Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.

  • Glaze with Garlic Butter: Brush the baked knots with garlic herb butter while still hot.

  • Serve: Serve warm, garnished with parsley or extra herbs.

Notes

Cheesy Garlic Knots: Add mozzarella inside the knot or on top before baking for a cheesy version.

Herb Variations: Try adding rosemary or thyme for different flavor profiles.

Spicy Version: Add red pepper flakes to the garlic butter for a spicy kick.

Vegan Version: Use dairy-free butter and egg replacement for a vegan-friendly option.
