Frosted Sugar Cookie Bars are soft, chewy sugar cookies topped with creamy cream cheese frosting, creating the perfect combination of sweetness and flavor, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the cookie bars:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg, room temperature

1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 2/3 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon milk

For the cream cheese frosting:

2 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt, and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the milk to make the dough slightly soft but still firm enough to press into the pan.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before frosting.
  9. For the frosting: In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and milk, and beat until well combined and smooth.
  11. Once the cookie bars have completely cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top of the bars.
  12. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

Add sprinkles for a festive touch, especially for holidays or birthdays.

If you’re not a fan of cream cheese frosting, you can use buttercream frosting or a powdered sugar glaze.

For a fresh twist, add lemon zest to the frosting for a citrusy flavor.

To add richness, drizzle melted chocolate over the frosting for a chocolatey twist.

Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Refrigerate for up to a week or freeze for up to 3 months.
