An indulgent breakfast or brunch dish made with buttery croissants, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and a sweet vanilla custard, baked until golden and set for a rich, dessert-like treat.

Ingredients

5 large croissants (preferably day-old), cut into 1-inch pieces

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 cups whole milk

4 large eggs

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

¼ tsp salt

Optional: powdered sugar for dusting, fresh berries or whipped cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Arrange croissant pieces in the dish, scattering chocolate chips evenly throughout.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour custard evenly over croissants, pressing gently to soak.
  5. Let sit 10–15 minutes for absorption.
  6. Bake 35–40 minutes, until golden and custard is set.
  7. Cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with berries or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Use slightly stale croissants for better absorption.

Swap chocolate chips for white or milk chocolate chunks.

For extra richness, use half-and-half or cream instead of milk.

Add nuts, fruit, or cocoa powder for variations.
