A quick and delicious Chinese Ground Beef and Cabbage Stir-Fry featuring savory ground beef, crisp cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, and a flavorful ginger-garlic sauce. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a satisfying lunch.

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

4 cups green cabbage, sliced

1 cup shiitake mushrooms, sliced (or any preferred mushrooms)

4 green onions, chopped (plus additional for garnish)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 inch ginger, minced

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooked rice (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove any excess grease if necessary.
  2. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the pan with the beef and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add the sliced cabbage and mushrooms to the pan and stir-fry for 4-5 minutes until the cabbage is wilted but still has some crunch and the mushrooms have softened.
  4. Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil. Toss to combine and cook for another 2-3 minutes, letting the flavors meld together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve the stir-fry over cooked rice and garnish with additional chopped green onions.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, swap the ground beef with ground tofu or tempeh.

Add chili oil, red pepper flakes, or sriracha for extra heat.

Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers, carrots, or snow peas for added texture and flavor.

Use any type of mushrooms you prefer, such as button or cremini mushrooms.
